Exhibitions and trade shows require displays that explain a product or idea quickly. 3D printed models can turn digital concepts into physical objects that visitors can see from every angle, making them useful for product launches, industrial demonstrations, architecture and branded installations.
What can be printed?
- Product cutaway models
- Miniature machines
- Architectural displays
- Brand mascots
- Oversized product replicas
- Interactive demonstration parts
Design for viewing distance
A model that looks detailed on a desk may be difficult to understand from several meters away. Important forms, labels and color zones should remain readable from the expected viewing distance.
Modular construction
Large exhibition models can be split into transportable sections. Alignment features, magnets, fasteners and removable panels can make setup easier and allow internal components to be demonstrated.
Material choices
FDM is often suitable for large display structures, while resin works well for small high-detail features. Material choice should consider transport, handling, lighting and display duration.
Brand integration
Logos, colors and product geometry can be incorporated directly into the model. Separate printed components can also be combined with acrylic, electronics, LEDs or traditional display materials.
Prototype before the event
Producing a smaller test model first can reveal scale and assembly issues before the final exhibition piece is printed.
Protecting the display
Trade-show items are often handled repeatedly. Design reinforced connection points and stable bases, especially when visitors can touch or interact with the model.
