How to Wash and Cure Resin 3D Prints Properly

Laboratory equipment used for resin washing and UV curing

A resin print is not finished when it leaves the build plate. Correct washing and curing are essential for removing uncured resin, achieving the intended material properties and producing a clean final surface.

Wear appropriate protection

Handle uncured resin according to the resin manufacturer’s safety instructions. Use suitable gloves, eye protection and good ventilation, and avoid skin contact.

Remove the print carefully

Use the correct tool and technique for your build plate. Avoid excessive force that can damage thin details.

Wash the model

Use the cleaning liquid recommended for the resin type. Agitation or a wash station helps remove uncured resin from surfaces, recesses and internal cavities.

Do not over-wash

Excessive soaking can affect some resin materials. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended process instead of assuming longer is always better.

Allow the part to dry

Before UV curing, let cleaning liquid evaporate completely. Curing a model while it is still wet can leave marks or an uneven surface.

When should supports be removed?

The ideal stage depends on the resin and geometry. Many users remove supports before final curing because they are easier to cut, but delicate parts may need extra care.

UV curing

Cure the print evenly using the time and wavelength recommended for the resin. Rotate the model or use a turntable so all sides receive adequate exposure.

Avoid excessive curing

Over-curing can make some resins more brittle or change their appearance. Use a controlled process.

Final inspection

  • Check for sticky areas.
  • Inspect drain holes and hollow sections.
  • Trim support marks.
  • Sand only where needed.
  • Dispose of contaminated materials responsibly.
